About Azul Nogueron

Artist Bio

Azul Alberto Nogueron is a queer non-binary multidisciplinary artist from Chicago, IL. They began their career as an artist in Chicago, where they worked with organizations like After School Matters, Columbia College, Fulton Street Collective, and the National Museum of Mexican Art. They received their BA from Monmouth College and received their Masters of Fine Arts from Maryland Institute College of Art.
Their current practice reflects the relationship between queer experience and love. Inspired by 18th century French nude portraits and fauvism, they are interested in the role of color and how it operates in the romantic connection between the artist and the subject. In addition, their work addresses the dichotomy between religious beliefs and the queer experience, specifically in the trans community. They are exploring their conflicting beliefs and use their own experience as a trans person to create stories of acceptance, fear, and curiosity in their paintings.

Worked cross departmental with Education and Guest Experience with program registration
processes and administrative operations in collaboration with key stakeholders across the
museum. Lead and support registration processes and functions across multiple programs and events
and in collaboration with program leads. Manage, create, communicate about, and maintain Museum-wide space usage system with
appropriate stakeholders. Ensure accessible museum experience for all guests by centralizing, tracking, and communicating about accommodations, supports, and resources. Participate in Museum-wide initiatives and planning committees when appropriate

Program Manager at Columbia College
Working directly with the school of visual and performing arts at Columbia College, I implement art programs for Chicago Public Schools and do community outreach. I work with students, parents, service organizations, and CPS to create a foundation for the arts and help create a space for the students to focus on their talents.

Curator at Various Galleries
Collaborated with artists across the city to develop a one day only event to demonstrate their
work. I planned exhibition-related programming closely with Fulton Street Collective. Projected and monitored all revenue and expenses for exhibition and programs. Developed detailed organizational plan and budget for the event with gallery owner and served as primary point of contact for artists, press inquiries, and partnerships

Gallery Attendant at National Museum of Mexican Art
Worked alongside with Internal Operations and curators at the Museum to ensure safety of the artwork displayed at NMMA.

Administrative Assistant at After School Matters
I was a direct line of communication between the program specialists and the program instructors. The programs provided were after school art programs for Chicago Public School students, those in grades 8-12.
